Vale do Lobo Summer Party – 16th August
August is just around the corner, bringing with it the social event
of the year at Vale do Lobo – the resort’s grand Summer Party. This
year’s Summer Party will follow along the lines of last year’s
success as an invitational, afterdinner event being held around the
lake below the Golf Academy at Parque do Golfe. The popular band
Björn Again, performing the greatest hits of ABBA, and DJ Ravin form
the main highlights for the evening, although the party promises
many other fabulous surprises to ensure guests are entertained. Not
forgetting of course the important changes at the resort, such as
the sophisticated new image, there will also be a small token of
celebration of this exciting new era with a glimpse too of some of
the most memorable occasions in the resort’s past.
Björn Again was created and founded in 1988 in Melbourne, Australia
by Company Director and bass player Rod Stephen. His show, which is
not labelled a “tribute” or a “copy” but seen as a band in its own
right, rapidly achieved worldwide cult status performing at over
4,000 shows in 60 countries over the last 20 years. The band was
also recently endorsed by Abba’s Agnetha Faltskög. Björn Again’s
presence at Vale do Lobo is sure to help you find the “Dancing
Queen” in you…
Do not take off your dancing shoes too soon though because their
performance is followed by the appearance of DJ Ravin, one of the
most successful DJs of our time, with a portfolio of ultrapopular
Buddha Bar albums to his name, among others. Ravin’s presence at
Vale do Lobo last year was a huge success and his signature style of
chilled out, yet energy-laden world music will soon have everyone in
the best of spirits.
The Summer Party on 16th August starts at 22:00h and will continue
through to the early hours, with an open bar service and delicious
canapés served throughout the night. Proprietors’ Club Members will
receive an invitation for two people. A limited number of tickets,
priced at €130 per person, will also be available for purchase by
Proprietors’ Club Members for their guests or children (over the age
of 16). Property owners contributing to the Basic Services Community
Charges may also purchase a limited number of tickets.
If there is only one date in your diary this year it should be the
Vale do Lobo Summer Party on 16th August and we look forward to
seeing you there!

period of time (until 31st July), the opportunity of securing these
impressive units prior to their release to the general public.

The resort’s solid community and friendly, welcoming environment

JUNE 2008 NEWS
Björn Borg
confirmed for Vale do Lobo Grand Champions
5th - 8th August 2008
Pedro Frazão, Director of Premier Sports, at the Vale do Lobo Tennis
Academy, has announced another star player for the Vale do Lobo
Grand Champions Caixa Geral de Depósitos tournament, set to take
place between 5th and 8th August – Björn Borg. Considered by many as
one of the greatest and most idolised players in the sport’s
history, Swedish born Björn was a phenomenon of his own in the 70’s
and 80’s with an achievement record and a following the like of
which was never seen before in world tennis. His surprise return to
the veteran circuit at last year’s Grand Champions after five years
of retirement was greatly received and he is clearly a popular
choice once again this year. Björn is a self-declared fan of both
the event and the resort itself, and it is with great pleasure that
Vale do Lobo welcomes him back. The announcement follows
confirmation also of the presence once again of last year’s winner,
Sergi Bruguera.
Full details of the programme for this year’s Grand Champions event
are available from the Vale do Lobo Tennis Academy and an
interesting interview with Björn Borg can also be found in the “Vale
do Lobo Living” magazine, available at various points in the resort.

José Mourinho DVD filmed at the resort

José Mourinho, more often known
as the “special one” recently gave preference to Vale do Lobo for
the location of his exciting new coaching DVD: “Football for Kids by
José Mourinho”. The highly acclaimed coach was present at the resort
between 23nd and 25th May to produce footage for the DVD, which will
be distributed in shops throughout the world, along with material
for a television programme, which too will be broadcast to diverse
international television channels. Mourinho is said to be very
impressed with the training and lifestyle facilities at the resort,
and the excellent conditions of the football pitch ensured Vale do
Lobo was the first choice for the filming, which was carried out by
the broadcasting company YETI. Budding footballers from the
Louletano Football Club, between the ages of 14-16, were selected to
train with him over two days, improving their game and learning a
few tricks from the star.
Vale do Lobo was pleased to welcome Mourinho along with the film
teams, providing them with luxury accommodation and additional
security procedures, with the final project a huge success and
raising the profile of the resort to the international sporting
community. Mourinho is considered to be one of the best coaches in
Europe, and for two consecutive years (2004 and 2005), Mourinho was
named the world’s best football coach by the International
Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS). He also is
known for his self-belief, dapper attire, and at times, highly
controversial statements. Mourinho’s decision to quit Chelsea
towards the end of September, 2007 came as a huge blow to “blues”
fans, as the first manager to lead the team to its first premiership
title in 50 years, and a surprise to the football world. After a
quiet period, during which he has focused on his own projects such
as the new DVD, much attention has arisen recently of a proposed
move to Inter Milan. As we all wait for the “special one” to make
his next move, let’s hope that he will return again soon to
the resort!
Vale do Lobo rolls out the red carpet… Real Madrid training camp
Vale do Lobo looks forward to welcoming the legendary Spanish
football team Real Madrid during 14th – 21st July for a week of
light training and teambonding. The team will be staying in
especially chosen accommodation within the resort and will benefit
from a schedule of
alternate training on the football pitch, where the media and
general public will be unable to gain access, the golf course, the
beach and a specially prepared gym at the football pitch, whilst
their families will enjoy personalised and private facilities,
similar to those provided previously for the England national team
and Manchester United. Real Madrid were drawn to the resort due to
its impressive line-up of premier teams who have chosen to train
here over recent years and its high profile sporting facilities. It
is hoped that the week will not only provide the perfect location
for relaxed training, but will allow the team to spend some quality
time in the sunshine in secure and private surroundings, and
ultimately a break from the media with their families and
colleagues.
Formed on March 6th, 1902, the club was originally named Madrid Club
de Fútbol, but was allowed to use the title “Real” after King
Alfonso XIII of Spain gave the club an official blessing in June
1920. The home stadium is the Santiago Bernabéu in Chamartín,
Madrid, founded in 1947, and the team has won the European Cup more
times than any other club, causing legendary rivalry with FC
Barcelona. In recent years, Real Madrid has become famous for
signing some of the world’s best footballers, giving the club the
new nickname of “Los Galácticos” (the galactics), replacing the much
loved “Los Merengues” (the whites ) – which originated from the
all-white uniform of the team. Famous acquisitions since Euro 2000
have included Portuguese Star Luís Figo, twotime FIFA World Player
of the Year Zinedine Zidane, top scorer in the 2002 FIFA World Cup
Ronaldo and England Star David Beckham.
Cardiff City choose Vale do Lobo as their base for The Algarve
Challenge Cup
Another team to have chosen to stay at Vale do Lobo this summer is
Cardiff City who will be competing in the Algarve Challenge Cup at
the “Estádio do Algarve” stadium in Faro on 22nd and 24th July.
The team will be staying at the resort during 20th to 25th July,
making full use of the extensive facilities for relaxation and of
course intensive training in preparation for their games. Vale do
Lobo is an ideal base for the team and within easy distance of the
stadium, making it their first choice of venue. The line-up for The
Algarve Challenge Cup this year includes Glasgow Celtic,
Middlesborough, Cardiff City and Vitoria de Guimarães, and the team
is very enthusiastic about both their stay at the resort and the
opportunity to play in the Algarve.
It’s Euro time again! The countdown for the 2008 Championship
begins…
As Vale do Lobo continues to build relationships in the European
football community, this month will also see the frenzy of the UEFA
European Championship takes over. The Championship has rapidly
turned into a massive success story, enjoying status as one of the
world’s
main sporting events, and attracting attention not just from
football enthusiasts, but the general public getting into the spirit
also, and in all corners of the world. It has been four years since
the last Euro, which took place in Portugal, and the hosts for this
year are Switzerland and Austria. Qualifying teams taking part in
the Championship are Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, France,
Germany, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania,
Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Turkey. The absence of
England will be sorely felt with the national team disappointingly
knocked out in the qualifying rounds. Hopefully Portugal can use the
experience of the 2004 event to improve their game to reach the
final this year. Vale do Lobo invites the resort’s community to join
them in wishing the teams every success.
Championship origins: The roots of the championship can be traced to
the early 50’s when the first UEFA General Secretary, Henry Delaunay
voiced the idea of a European competition for national teams.
Championships for national associations had already begun in other
continents by that time and the comparatively late emergence in
Europe was attributed to certain fears in some quarters that a
competition of a similar style could well threaten the status of the
FIFA World Cup – Delauney had in fact already submitted a proposal
to FIFA in 1927 for the creation of a European Cup, to run
concurrently with the World Cup, and which would involve a
qualifying competition every two years. Following Henry Delauney’s
death in 1955, his son Pierre joined a number of French journalists
in the drive towards initiating the European Nation’s Cup, and after
his appointment as secretary of the Organising Committee, he was
able to observe at close quarters the blossoming of the competition
that his father had so wanted. Upon the foundation of the
competition, it was agreed that it should be named the Henri
Delauney Cup in recognition of his outstanding services in the cause
of European football. The first championship match proper was held
on 28th September 1958 in Moscow’s Central Stadium – from there the
inaugural competition took place over 22 months between 1958 and
1960, marking the beginning of one of the most anticipated events in
the football calendar, witnessing over the years to come some truly
remarkable and momentous play.
Euro 2008 will receive massive media coverage, allowing millions of
fans to watch the 31 matches in all four corners of the world.
Reports from Euro 2004 in Portugal totalled approximately 28,378
hours on 234 different channels, a far cry from the grainy black and
white images during the Championship’s humble beginnings!
Coverage of the games can be seen at various locations in the
resort, including Spikes, La Creperie (day time only), Monty’s and
the Tennis Academy.
Rosemary Conley - Health and Fitness Week at the resort
The Rosemary Conley Fitness Week kicks off on 1st June with a
champagne reception, followed by a full week’s programme of workouts
with Rosemary, a medical check-up with Dr. Kaiser from the Vale do
Lobo medical Centre, beauty treatments, a medical or personal
training session, a round of 9 holes of golf and a number of talks,
demonstrations and other programmed activities, ending on 8th June.
Free use of the tennis courts, outdoor swimming pools and gymnasium
will also be given. The fitness guru promises an exciting week of
fun and well-being, aiming to point each participant on the right
path for a fitter, healthier and happier way of living.
Further details are available from the Vale do Lobo Wellness Centre.
Vale Do lobo rocks - Rock’n’Roll party was a fun night for all
Saturday, 17th May saw the Auditorium transform into a Hall of Rock
for an evening of Rock’n’Roll, to the sounds of some of the best
music from the era. The first event of its kind in the resort, the
evening was greatly welcomed and enjoyed by all those who attended,
bringing an injection of colourful entertainment and dance to the
resort – musical entertainment was provided by the lively Pink
Cadillacs with authentic dancing quartet “Presumed Innocent Show”
performing their best moves and encouraging guests out onto the
dance floor. Suggestions of other themed events that would be
popular amongst the Vale do Lobo community would be greatly welcomed
and will help towards providing a diverse year-round calendar of
events.
New Interior Design Showroom adds a creative corner at Vale do Lobo
Shopping
The greatly anticipated interior design showroom by prestigious
interior designers: Alquatro and Maria Raposo opened its doors at
Vale do Lobo Shopping at the end of May. A divine space of home
inspiration and beautiful design, the showroom will provide a base
for expert designers from both companies to create home identity
solutions, working alongside the resort’s own architectural
department on bespoke home projects. The space also showcases a
diverse selection of furnishings and accessories, perfect to adorn
your home or as a special gift. The date for the showroom’s official
opening will be announced shortly.
The resort makes a “grand entrance” - Works due for completion in
June
The plans for the fabulous resort entrance have been generating
increasing interest and the wait for the completion of the area,
which is already clearly taking the shape of the final showpiece, is
now almost over. The entrance should be completed by the middle of
this month. Vale do Lobo looks forward to unveiling the entrance to
the Vale do Lobo community and visitors.
Finisterra
exhibition 28th June - 26th August
Vale do Lobo Art Gallery opens its doors on June, 28th with an
inspiring exhibition – “Finisterra” - organised by the Centro
Cultural São Lourenço and involving also the participation of the
Convento Espírito Santo in Loulé. This new exhibition will feature
seven young Portuguese artists, throughout the months of June, July
and August. The theme will encompass natural landscapes intertwined
with fantasy and three dimensional elements, symbolising the line
from where land ends and a journey begins, hence the name “Finisterra”,
end of land. Each artist will be allocated one of the three
galleries to present his/her works. The artist that has been chosen
to exhibit at Vale do Lobo is Hugo Canoilas, who will be presenting
a selection of highly original sculptures and pieces against a
backdrop of darkness, resulting in a surreal feel of mystery to the
space. The “Finisterra” exhibition will run from June, 28th to
August, 26th.
Blue Flag once again awarded
Vale do Lobo celebrates 20 years of recognition
The beach season is only just around the corner and beachgoers will
be pleased to hear that Vale do Lobo has once again been awarded the
European Union Blue Flag of Environmental Excellence. The Blue Flag
requires an assessment and re-award every year, ensuring the upmost
care is taken to maintain high standards – this is the 20th year
running that it has been awarded to the resort in recognition that
both the beach and waters are clean. Vale do Lobo’s beach offers a
haven for both those who just wish to relax in the sunshine, perhaps
with a good book, and those who use the sand for resistance building
either by jogging or walking. A diverse selection of water sports
and other fun beach activities will also be in force throughout the
summer months, ensuring there is something for all the family.
